I am an interdisciplinary artist, researcher, and educator originally from Iran and now based in Toronto. Coming from generations of Persian artists and artisans, I grew up surrounded by making, storytelling, and material traditions. Those early experiences shaped my understanding of art not only as a form of expression, but also as a way of carrying memory, knowledge, and cultural identity across generations.
Today, my work spans sculpture, textile, installation, and research-based practices. I am interested in how materials can hold personal and collective histories, and I often work with labour-intensive processes such as weaving, stitching, casting, and repetitive handwork. In some projects, I use deeply personal materials—including my own body and hair from myself and my mother—to explore themes of memory, care, migration, belonging, and inheritance.
Alongside my artistic practice, I have spent more than a decade teaching, mentoring, and supporting students in higher education. As both an artist and educator, I believe creativity can foster curiosity, empathy, and meaningful dialogue. I am passionate about creating spaces where people can learn through making, share experiences, and connect with one another.
Since moving to Toronto, I have continued to develop my artistic practice while becoming involved in community arts initiatives, public programs, and cultural organizations. Whether in the studio, classroom, gallery, or community setting, I see art as a powerful tool for connection, reflection, and understanding.
